The Area |
This mostly coastal area borders Newcastle and is home to a large population, many who work in the city. Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and Cullercoats are the main resorts, boasting wide expanses of sand. The housing is mostly Victorian and early twentieth century with a few new developments. These towns have good shopping, pubs and restaurants. The Royal Quays, a little down the river at North Shields, is a modern development with housing and leisure facilities. The area is well serviced with efficient road links.
